Opening the pool

The weather has been improving, so when it reached 28 again on Saturday I finally decided to open the pool this Sunday.
Each pool is opened slightly differently.
For us; we removed and checked condition of winter cover. This was then stored for end of season.
The filters were cleaned and put back in the cartridges. Boring job and am thinking maybe I would have preferred sand, but this was not an option with this pool.
The pump was reconnected and the valves were opened, then the pump was primed. Sometimes this takes two or three goes for us - our pump is stored in the cellar and the water has to go slightly uphill.
The pump was plugged in and started its work. I checked the water was filling the pump chamber, and also checked flow at the pool outlets.
Sadly we do not have a JEP unit yet, but will get one installed very soon as I do not want the chemical hassel this year.
So it was back to the chlorine tablets. I put in enough to commence the pool water treatment and commenced pH adjustment.
I will let the system run for a few days, then clean out the filter and base of pool.
To prevent undue debris at present, I have put on the summer bubble cover.
Typically, it is overcast today!

April 9th

Our weather has so far been appalling. We have apparently had the wettest March on record for 30 years. April does not seem to be much better. Yesterday it was 28 and I thought, OK, it's time to open the swimming pool up. Today, it is cold and overcast.
So, I am not going to open the pool just yet. However, it is time to make sure everything is ready in preparation for the event.

This year we are attaching a JEP unit to our filtration. This will automatically adjust both pH and chlorine levels. It will let me know if the water balance is correct or not and will keep it at optimum levels with minimal chemicals. This year I will not have to inhale chlorine fumes every time I open the box to get out more chlorine tablets - as I will not be touching the chemicals. No more fiddley weekly test kits to check on the pH and chlorine levels. The JEP unit will adjust every 3 minutes, so I do not have to add more chlorine myself if there are more folk in the pool or if there is a storm. It's the easy life for me with the swimming pool this year.
